The last group of storage organs are pseudobulbs. These are modified stems which become bloated near their base. Like real bulbs, pseudobulbs can create daughter plants. Pseudobulbs are common among tropical epiphytic orchids, but they are rare among the orchids of the colder climates.

When transplanting bulbs, rhizoms or pseudobulbs, one should always remember that they don't belong as deep into the soil as potatoes or certain lily bulbs. Usually the best way to plant them, is right under the surface of the soil. New daughter plants will always be created in the right altitude.
