This species has beautiful purple-red blossoms. It blooms earlier than many other species, in Germany in the late april or early may.

Call this a forest orchid, although it does not like the deep shadows. The favorite place are the sunny edges of beech forests with lime soil.

In the garden, a lightly shaded semi-dry bed with much limestone in the soil is the right place. An ideal place would be under some trees.
