A family of asian orchids which offers some species for shady beds, but they require protection against winter frost and rain. Recommended are C. discolor, C. reflexa, C. tricarinata and others.

Calopogon tuberosus
The four species of this family grow in the bogs of northeast America. C. tuberosus is a tall orchid with beautiful pink, upside-down blossoms. It can be cultivated easily in a moist Sphagnum bed.

Comperia comperiana
A bizarre orchid with a forked lip which extends to long strands. Can be found in Greece and the middle east. Only container culture in a permeable mineralic substratum may be of interest.
